What is a smart weight loss target for me?
A smart weight loss target for an athlete should be approached with careful consideration, to ensure it aligns with performance goals and supports overall health, while being sustainable.
Why should I set a smart weight loss target?
When it comes to weight loss, there is no quick fix. At FoodCoach we believe and stand behind the concept of smart weight loss:
- Support performance: Gradual reductions in weight and total energy intake, prevent muscle loss and sustaining energy for workouts.
- Support overall health: Gradual reductions in weight prevents metabolic slowdown while supporting immune function and psychological well-being.
- Sustainable progression: Sustainable weight loss takes time and should occur gradually to ensure that changes are manageable and maintainable for long-term success.
How do I get my weight loss target on point?
Use the FoodCoach app to start your smart weight loss journey. Go to your profile and set your weight goal to losing weight, while taking into account the following questions:
- Which weekly target should I choose? The FoodCoach app applies a maximum of -0.5kg per week, to minimize muscle mass reduction, enhance performance, and facilitate sustainable weight loss. However, if you wish to lose weight at a slower rate, you can choose the target of -0.25kg per week.
- What if I want to lose weight faster? As a default app setting, this does not fit with the concept of smart weight loss. In consultation and guidance from a certified FoodCoach, it is possible to see whether there is still untapped potential for weight loss in your individual case.
- When do I see results? Responses to weight-loss approaches are highly individual and depend on physical characteristics, behavior and environmental factors. Setting a weight target and the associated calorie deficit does not always lead to immediate and exact results. It is wise to monitor your process to reach your weight-loss goals.
